About Us > Company Profile

Our early beginning was the establishment of a company called Wattar Frerres. It was formed in 1928 by Mr. Bakri Wattar sons. Since its inception it has been involved in obtaining distributorship and agencies of major foreign brands. Its main concentration was on photographic items, cinema production items, radios, records and turntables.

In 1930, Wattar Frerres built their first record making factory in the Middle East, in the city of Aleppo (North of Syria) to cover the needs of the market in the region for such products. However, and due to the lack of materials and to the World War II, the factory was closed and the company started importing records from UK, France and USA.

In 1965, Mr. Assaad Wattar, in Damascus, formed Wattar Trading Co. a subsidiary of Wattar Frerres. Wattar Trading Company’s portfolio includes exclusive rights for the distribution of photography items such as Varimex, Merkuria, Ilford, Paterson, Haking Industries, Yashika and other audio & video equipment.

Between 1969 and 1998, Wattar Trading Company was the official distributor of AKAI, Pioneer and Casio. The company had No.1 market share at that time.

1998 witnessed the involvement of Wattar’s 3rd generation members represented by Mr. Fadi Wattar. This period was the start of the company’s diversification process by adding home & kitchen appliances to its range of products. Throughout this period, Wattar Trading Company became the distributor of several international brands such as Sharp, Sanyo, and Whirlpool with a leading market share. It also expanded its electronics line to include brands like Quadral, Boston Acoustics, Show, Sekaku, JBL and Harmon/Kardon.

In 2010, and as part of our continuous expansion, the company decided to change its name to become Damas Invest L.L.C. and to diversify its business more in order to grasp the growing potential in the construction field that Syria is witnessing. Therefore, the company added 2 new divisions:

1. Electrical Division: to cover the gap in the building automation and to introduce other added value products such as Wiring Accessories, Gensets, UPS and Lighting.

2. Building materials Division: to be a one stop shop for building materials like Cement, Gypsum Boards, Paints, Insulation, and tools.
